Eleocharis acuta – Small Spike Rush

A rhizomatous macrophyte that forms dense swards to colonise shallow fresh water along the edges of dams, lagoons, drainage swales and boggy low lying areas. Occurs mainly in stationary to very slow moving water. Its range extends from the coast to all inland areas. Eleocharis acuta has fine green, cylindrical, upright foliage.

Uses: A great coloniser and habitat for birds, frogs and other animals.

Aspect: Grows in full sun to part shade in boggy soils and in water 0—500mm deep, along the edges of dams, lagoons, drainage swales and boggy low lying areas.
Planting rates: Mass planting 5 to 7/m2
