Eucalyptus resinifera – Red Mahogany, Red Messmate
A medium-sized evergreen tree endemic to coastal areas of eastern Australia. It has rough, stringy or fibrous bark on the trunk and branches, lance-shaped adult leaves, flower buds in groups of between seven and eleven, white flowers and hemispherical, conical or cup-shaped fruit.
Eucalyptus resinifera has a compact crown and can grow up to 45 metres tall. The straight bole, which can have a diameter of 100 – 150cm, is often unbranched for up to 30 metres.
Uses: Fast growing. Tolerates dry periods. Doesn’t shed bark so great for parks, avenue planting, windbreak and shade.
