Ficus benjamina – Starlight, Weeping Fig – tree

A fast growing, tropical evergreen tree with shiny, oval, pointed variegated leaves and drooping branches. ‘Starlight’ is an attractive form of Ficus benjamina .  Ficus is a genus of about 850 species of woody trees, shrubs, vines, epiphytes and hemiepiphytes in the family Moraceae. Collectively known as fig trees or figs, they are native throughout the tropics.

Uses: great indoor or patio plant.

Dimensions: H up to 15m | W 10m
Flowering: insignificant flowers and small fig type fruits in spring summer, but rarely flowers indoors. But gorgeous variegated foliage.
Aspect: part sun / part shade when outdoors; bright diffuse light indoors.
Soil type: prefers moist well drained soil in organic matter.

Maintenance: water sparingly when established, feed with fertiliser regularly; has an invasive root system. As an indoor plant prune to keep desired shape.
