raphiolepis indica – Snow Maiden, Indian Hawthorn

Rhaphiolepis indica or the Indian Hawthorn is a bushy, rounded, evergreen shrub with dark green glossy, leathery toothed leaves and panicles of white with pink star shaped flowers in summer that mature to dark blue berries in winter.

It is a good plant for coastal positions and is very dense and hardy while also being very attractive, especially when in bloom in springtime. Suited to most climates excluding extreme hot and dry. Tolerates wind and moderate frost once established and is fast growing

Uses: Border, hedging, screening, coastal areas

Flowering: White with pink star shaped flowers in summer that mature to dark blue berries in winter.

Soil type: Any soil types, quite a hardy plant and also very reliable
Planting rates:

Maintenance: Will tolerate drought, even enjoys some summer dryness. Prune occasionally, especially when young and after flowering to encourage dense growth and flowering.
